Held on June 5, the date was established in 1972 at the United Nations General Assembly which marked the opening of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, known as the Stockholm Conference. At that Conference, the United Nations created the United Nations Environment Program and presented the Declaration of the UN Conference on the Environment, which presents principles that aim at improving the preservation of the Environment.

With the central theme this year of air pollution and all the consequences for the quality of life of society, the UN has created the #BeatAirPollution campaign or “Win air pollution” campaign.
